Bench-Bar Committee Courtroom Chat Series– Litigating Competency in the Denver Courts
Thursday, April 11, 2024
7:30 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.
Via Zoom Only
Take advantage of this great opportunity to learn about various facets of competency issues in Denver’s courts. Our speakers will include two Denver District Court Judges, including Hon. Elizabeth D. Leith (Presiding Judge of the Denver Probate Court) and Hon. Lisa C. Arnolds, in addition to Denver County Court Judge Hon. Kelly C. Cherry, and Jennifer Turner from the Bridges Program. Judge Arnolds and Judge Leith will discuss how competency issues are being litigated in Denver District Court and the Denver Probate Court and the collaboration between both courts, and Judge Cherry will discuss the new competency docket in Denver County Court. Also, Ms. Turner of the Bridges Program (which was legislatively established as an independent state office within the Judicial Branch in April 2023) will be discussing the increasing use of court liaisons across the state when competency is being litigated in a case, the rapid expansion of her office, and the office’s future plans for delivering liaison services. This presentation, like all of the Courtroom Chats, will occur in a casual “roundtable” format in which attendees are encouraged to ask questions and participate in a dialogue with the presenters.
