Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser with Beer & Wine Tasting

Every year the CBA YLD hosts a fundraiser for a local charity which features local beers, fine wine, and sparkling conversation with other lawyers. To get involved in organizing and executing this great evening of fun, you can contact Jake Eisenstein.

Continuing Legal Education

Do you have valuable information on a topic you’d like to share with other young lawyers? The CBA YLD is in the process of planning its annual CLE. We expect one hundred or more attendees at this fun, low cost CLE event. Our membership includes many diverse and talented young professionals, and we’d like to give some of you an opportunity to teach to other young lawyers. Metro Volunteer Lawyers

Now is a great time early in your career to begin incorporating pro bono service to those in need! If you live in Denver or the surrounding area, Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL) offers easy and different ways to begin giving back. MVL is the pro bono arm of the Denver Bar Association, providing civil legal services to those in need in the Denver metro area.

    REASONS TO BEGIN VOLUNTEERING:

  • Helping MVL clients is a rewarding way to serve the needs of the less fortunate in your community, helping work towards our constitutional mandate of providing equal justice under the law.
  • Advancing the reputation of the legal profession.
  • Obtaining practical legal experience.
  • Fulfilling your professional responsibility to provide legal services to those unable to pay. A lawyer should aspire to render at least fifty hours of pro bono public legal services per year. Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 6.1.
  • You can receive CLE credits for pro bono work. Under C.R.C.P. 260.8, Colorado attorneys providing uncompensated pro bono legal representation may apply for 1 general CLE credit for every 5 billable-equivalent hours of representation, up to a maximum of 9 credits in each 3 year compliance period.
  • MVL provides attorneys with malpractice insurance for the cases they take through our organization.

    WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

  • Take a case pro bono. MVL recruits and coordinates volunteer attorneys to represent people in a range of different types of civil cases who otherwise could not afford legal assistance. SIGN UP HERE. MVL also coordinates a mentoring program to help new attorneys with their cases if needed.
  • Participate in MVL’s Family Law Court Program (FLCP). A low commitment way to assist clients for one morning and/or afternoon with a relatively uncomplicated family law case.SIGN UP HERE

    SOME ADDITIONAL INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT MVL:

  • Metro Volunteer Lawyers was first established in 1966 by a group of young lawyers wanting to help those in need.
  • Metro Volunteer Lawyers provides civil legal services to those in need in eight counties in the Denver metro area.
  • Metro Volunteer Lawyers hosts a fellowship for recent law graduates funded by Lois Ann Rovira, in memory and honor of her husband, the late Honorable Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice, Luis Rovira.
  • Over 12% of Colorado’s population is financially eligible (earn less than 125% of poverty level) for legal services from Metro Volunteer Lawyers.
  • During the 2013 calendar year, approximately 588 volunteer attorneys took 1,850 cases through Metro Volunteer Lawyers.
  • Metro Volunteer Lawyers also collaborates with Rocky Mountain Immigration Advocacy Network (RMIAN) to provide legal assistance to financially-eligible immigration defendants.
  • All proceeds of the Barristers Benefit Ball support Metro Volunteer Lawyers.
